The 10 Best Wedding Planners in Chicago, From the Videographers Who Work Beside Them

The best Chicago weddings we have filmed have one thing in common: a planner who saw the whole day before it happened. A great planner builds the timeline, protects the golden hour, cues the toasts and quietly fixes the problems nobody else ever notices. From behind the camera, we see all of it.

These are the ten Chicago wedding planners we have worked beside most often and would happily recommend to our own couples. Nobody paid to be on this list. The order reflects how many weddings we have shared, and every name links to real weddings you can watch.

How We Chose

We looked at what only another vendor sees: how calm the day feels, how clearly the timeline is shared with every vendor, how well the planner knows Chicago’s venues, and whether the couple actually gets to enjoy their wedding.

1. LOLA Event Productions

No planner appears in more of our films. LOLA plans and designs large, polished celebrations at Chicago’s landmark venues, and their days run with a calm precision that makes our job easy.

We have filmed LOLA weddings at The Ritz-Carlton for Hannah and Allen, with an espresso martini ice luge that opened at 9 p.m., and for Megan and Chad and Ali and Ian; at the Adler Planetarium for AJ and Aaron, Mina and Ammar and Karen and David; and at the InterContinental for a Chinese wedding.

Best for: large, design-driven weddings at hotels and landmark venues.

2. Clementine Custom Events

Clementine plans beautifully organized weddings across the city, from churches and hotels to gardens and lofts, and we have shared seven weddings with them.

Among them: Meagan and Nick at Saint Clement and The Peninsula, Kristen and Kyle at Saint James Chapel and the University Club, Taylor and Elan at the Chicago Botanic Garden, Ashley and Steve at Holy Name and The Langham, and Jessica and Dawid at St. Hyacinth Basilica.

Best for: couples who want a detail-minded planner comfortable in any kind of venue.

3. Shannon Gail Events

Shannon Gail Events also appears in seven of our films, often for classic church-and-hotel weddings downtown.

We worked together at Kristine and Matthew’s and Gabriela and Mario’s weddings at Saint James Chapel and The Langham, Shannon and Michael’s at Old St. Patrick’s and Theater on the Lake, Katelyn and Andrew’s at Holy Family and the Old Post Office, and Rebecca and Pat’s at LondonHouse.

Best for: classic Catholic ceremonies followed by a downtown reception.

4. Storybook Weddings & Events

Storybook’s timelines are some of the clearest we receive, down to the minute and the room. For Hailey and Austin at Lake Shore Country Club they built in a golden-hour portrait while guests found their seats and a quick sunset photo after the prayer.

We have also filmed Storybook weddings for Sydney and Brian at the Bridgeport Art Center and Kimberly and Rich at the Chicago History Museum.

Best for: couples who want a planner who thinks in minutes and protects the light.

5. Mazi Moments

We have filmed three Mazi Moments weddings: Sarah and Colin’s at Saint James Chapel and The Drake, where Sarah got ready in the Princess Diana Suite; Caroline and Vasilios’s Greek wedding at Annunciation Cathedral and the Hilton Chicago; and Lauren and Shane’s at Fourth Presbyterian Church.

Best for: traditional ceremonies with large families and a classic downtown reception.

6. Christina Currie Events

Christina Currie coordinates elegant North Shore and suburban weddings, from large club receptions to intimate celebrations. We filmed Meghan and Matt’s June wedding at the Club at Wynstone, with a Rolls Royce arrival, Kaitlyn and Hobie’s 24-guest micro wedding there, and Courtney and Adam’s 50-guest wedding at Holy Name and Gibsons Italia in July 2020. She also planned Kristin and Kevin’s wedding at Holy Name Cathedral and The Peninsula, with 161 guests.

Best for: North Shore club weddings and intimate celebrations. Read our spotlight on Christina Currie Events →

7. Amelia Cole Weddings

Amelia Cole’s timelines plan for everything, including the moments couples care about most. For Lena and Nick at The Drake, that meant time for letters, a first look with her dad and a Gold Coast Room turned from ceremony to reception during cocktail hour.

We have also filmed Amelia Cole weddings for Grace and Vincent at the University Club and Arelly and Billy at Odyssey Country Club.

Best for: couples who want every personal moment planned into the day.

8. Anthony Gowder Designs

Anthony Gowder’s team is known for design: florals, décor and the overall look of the room, often alongside a planner. We have filmed their work at five weddings, including Dana and Kit’s celebration at The Drake, the full wedding they had waited for after a 2020 micro wedding, and Alex and Paul’s at the Hilton Chicago.

Best for: couples whose priority is a room that takes everyone’s breath away.

9. Michelle Durpetti Events

We filmed beside Michelle Durpetti’s team at Danae and Christopher’s wedding at Saint James Chapel and The Drake, a celebration of their Italian and Greek heritage after ten and a half years together.

Best for: couples who want a design-forward planner for a classic downtown wedding.

10. Everlie & Co.

Everlie & Co. planned Meaghan and Joe’s wedding, with a private first look in the courtyard of the Westin River North, a ceremony at Holy Name Cathedral and a garden-inspired reception at Galleria Marchetti.

Best for: couples who want a warm, personal planning partner.

For Couples: How a Planner Shapes Your Film

  • A good timeline leaves room for golden-hour portraits, the most valuable twenty minutes of the day on camera.
  • Planners cue the entrances and toasts, so nothing important happens while we are changing positions.
  • They can arrange a soundboard feed for us, so every word of the toasts is clear in your film.
  • They keep family photos moving, which leaves time for the moments couples remember.
  • Ask your planner to share the final timeline with your videographer and photographer a week before the wedding.
