A Timeless Chicago Love Story: Sarah & Colin at The Drake & Saint James Chapel

There is something truly magical about a fall wedding in the heart of Chicago, and Sarah and Colin’s celebration on November 13, 2021 was the epitome of classic elegance. From the historic halls of The Drake to the stunning architecture of Saint James Chapel, every moment was a filmmaker’s dream.

The Morning: Preparation and Personal Touches

The day began at The Drake, where Sarah and her bridesmaids prepared in the legendary Princess Diana Suite. One of the most cinematic moments of the morning was the letter reading, a quiet, emotional beat before the whirlwind began, followed by a champagne cheers with the bridesmaids in their pajamas before Sarah stepped into her gown with her mother’s help.

The Ceremony: Saint James Chapel

The couple traveled in style by vintage car to Saint James Chapel for a traditional ceremony underscored by Vivaldi and Bach, culminating in Sarah’s entrance to Pachelbel’s Canon in D. The joy peaked at their grand exit, as family and friends showered the newlyweds with streamers on the chapel steps, one of our favorite frames we have ever filmed there.

The Portraits: Iconic Chicago Backdrops

Before the reception, we followed the wedding party to the Civic Opera House and up to the rooftop of The Drake, with breathtaking skyline views. Kehoe Designs’ lush emerald-and-white florals, including Sarah’s stunning bouquet, gave every frame a classic elegance.

The Reception: A Celebration in the Gold Coast Room

A sophisticated cocktail hour in the Palm Court flowed into a grand reception in the Gold Coast Room, where the Drake Champagne Parade kicked off dinner in spectacular fashion.

• First dance: the soulful “Touching Heaven” by Johnnyswim.
• Parent dances: heartfelt moments to Tom Petty’s “Wildflowers” and The Temptations’ “My Girl.”
• The energy: The Chicago Players kept the dance floor packed all night.
• Late night: the celebration stayed high-energy to the very end, complete with a late-night Shake Shack delivery.
