Capturing a Legend: Loriann & Ryan’s Star-Crossed Celebration

There is something truly magical about a wedding date that carries a story. For Loriann and Ryan, their celebration on July 7th was more than a beautiful summer day in Chicago; it was a tribute to the Chinese Valentine’s Day legend of the “bird bridge.” Our goal was to catch the moments of happiness and tears while documenting the intricate details that made this day a cinematic masterpiece.

A Day of Iconic Chicago Moments

The day began with prep at the InterContinental Chicago before the couple headed to Fourth Presbyterian Church for a breathtaking first look. We captured the quiet anticipation as Ryan waited for Loriann, a moment they specifically asked us to film to preserve the surprise.

One of the most cinematic sequences of the day was the horse-drawn carriage ride down Michigan Avenue. Following the couple through the heart of the city gave their love story a fine-art backdrop, blending the historic Water Tower and the energy of Chicago with their private, romantic moment.

A Beautiful Blend of Traditions

The heart of this wedding was the seamless integration of cultures. The couple honored their heritage with a traditional Chinese tea ceremony in the Hall of Lions, serving tea to their parents as a sign of respect and gratitude.

The symbolism continued into the main ceremony, which blended Christian traditions with star-themed decor. The most striking detail: origami paper cranes adorning the ceremony arch, representing the “bird bridge” of Chinese folklore, the celestial bridge across the stars that lets long-distance lovers meet. A poignant metaphor for Loriann and Ryan’s own journey.

An Unforgettable Reception

As the evening moved to the Renaissance Ballroom, the atmosphere shifted from sacred tradition to high-energy celebration: a surprise belly dancing performance during cocktail hour, emotional toasts from the maid of honor and best man, and a “star stream” theme that lit up the room. Every second was a testament to the couple’s thoughtful planning.
