Ashley & Steve’s Wedding at Holy Name Cathedral & The Langham Chicago

A Cinematic Chicago Celebration: Ashley & Steve at The Langham

On November 9, 2019, Chicago provided a breathtaking backdrop for Ashley and Steve’s wedding. Our goal was to capture the sophisticated blend of classic Chicago architecture and the vibrant, personalized energy this couple brought to their celebration.

The Morning: Preparation and Anticipation

Our coverage began with the dual narratives of the morning. At The Langham Chicago, Ashley and her bridesmaids prepared in a suite filled with laughter and the expert touch of stylists from RC Beauty, while our second team documented Steve and his groomsmen at their condo on Erie Street. These quiet moments, the steaming of the gown, the pinning of boutonnieres, set the stage for the grand events to follow.

The Ceremony: Holy Name Cathedral

The heart of the day took place at the historic Holy Name Cathedral. The processional, accompanied by the stately “Trumpet Voluntary,” led to the moment everyone was waiting for: Ashley’s entrance to “Canon in D” with live violin. The cathedral’s magnificent scale gave the exchange of vows truly cinematic proportions.

City Portraits and The Pink Taxi

Following the ceremony, the newlyweds departed for photos around the city, including stops in Old Town. One of the most charming segments of the film features the couple with the Langham Pink Taxi, a whimsical touch that perfectly captured their joy.

The Reception: A Night to Remember

The celebration returned to The Langham for a reception planned to perfection by Clementine Custom Events. Every detail, from the florals by Fragrant Design to the custom marble tile place cards, spoke to the couple’s style.

  • The grand entrance & first dance: the couple entered to Dave Matthews’ “You and Me,” transitioning seamlessly into their first dance.
  • Unique artistry: fashion illustrator Kristine Steiner sketched live portraits of the guests during cocktail hour.
  • The entertainment: a surprise performance by the Cover Girls, followed by a packed dance floor hosted by the band Sway.
  • The after-party: the festivities moved to the Cambridge Ballroom, featuring a bourbon bar, a “Shotsky,” and even ski goggles for a playful late-night vibe.
