Capturing the wedding of Karen Tye and David Palm was an exercise in documenting modern Chicago elegance against the backdrop of one of the city’s most iconic landmarks. As Chicago-based videographers, we at 312FILMS were honored to tell the story of their May 29th celebration.

The Morning: Anticipation in the City

The day began with a buzz of energy as the couple prepared for their vows in the heart of the city. Karen and her bridesmaids prepared at her home on North Fairbanks Court, where Diem Angie provided hair and makeup services. Meanwhile, David and his groomsmen gathered at their home on North Lake Shore Drive. Our cameras focused on the intricate details: the delivery of personal flowers, the precision of the groomsmen’s attire, and the emotional moment Karen stepped into her dress.

The First Look and Skyline Portraits

One of the most cinematic highlights of the day was the couple’s first look at the Wrigley Building. Under the historic architecture of Michigan Avenue, Karen and David shared their first private moments of the day before being joined by their bridal party for photos. We followed the celebration to the Lurie Garden Bridge, capturing the juxtaposition of lush greenery and the towering Chicago skyline.

A Ceremony Under the Stars

As the sun began to set, the festivities moved to the Adler Planetarium. Guests were welcomed into a space where the celestial met the sophisticated. The ceremony began at 6:40 PM, with the processional set to the sweeping tones of Piano Concerto #2. It was a powerful, moving ceremony that perfectly bridged the couple’s personal story with the grandeur of the venue.

The Reception: Dancing and Iconic Chicago Flavors

Following cocktails, the reception kicked off with high energy as the bridal party entered to “Sugar” by Maroon 5. The evening was filled with heartfelt toasts from the Father of the Bride, the Maid of Honor, and the Best Man.

Karen and David shared their first dance to “Sunday Kind of Love,” a classic choice that set a romantic tone for the rest of the night. To keep the energy high, the couple surprised guests with a Garrett’s Popcorn station, a quintessential Chicago late-night treat. From the cake cutting to the final songs played by Spoken Four, every moment was a testament to their love and the vibrant city they call home.
