Michele & James’s Classic Wedding at Saint Clement & The Peninsula Chicago

Michele & James: A Classic Chicago Celebration at Saint Clement & The Peninsula

On August 31, 2019, Michele and James celebrated a day that captures the essence of classic Chicago elegance. From the high-rise views of Peninsula Suite 1808 to the historic aisles of Saint Clement Church, their wedding was a masterclass in timeless style and joyful celebration.

The Morning: Getting Ready & Emotional First Looks

The day began in Peninsula Suite 1808, where the bridal party prepared for the festivities. One of the most touching moments of the morning was the father of the bride’s first look, as Scott saw Michele in her gown for the first time. Meanwhile, James and his groomsmen made their final preparations before the wedding party departed by Chicago trolley, and by the Peninsula’s vintage Packard.

The Ceremony at Saint Clement

Under the stunning architecture of Saint Clement, the ceremony was marked by beautiful traditional music, with “La Grace” and “Gabriel’s Oboe” for the processional as Michele was escorted down the aisle by her father. Monsignor Velo led the service, and after being declared husband and wife, the couple exited to Handel’s “Hornpipe” through a ribbon wand departure on the church steps.

The Reception: An Elegant Black-Tie Affair

The celebration moved to The Peninsula Ballroom, a scene of pure sophistication where even the vendors wore black tie. The evening’s energy was set immediately as the new Mr. and Mrs. Carmichael were introduced into their first dance to Tina Turner’s “Simply the Best.”

  • Heartfelt toasts: emotional and humorous speeches from the parents, the best man, the maids of honor, and a special toast from “The Ryan Cousins.”
  • A full dance floor: an 11-piece band led by David Sherman kept the energy high all night, opening with a guest dance set right after the first dance.
  • The father-daughter dance: Michele and Scott to The Spinners’ “I’ll Be Around.”
  • The after-party: as the main reception concluded, the party continued in the Millennium Park Room with 312 Entertainment, well into the night.
