Celestial Traditions: Ann & Hansen’s Journey from Holy Name Cathedral to the Adler Planetarium

On July 12, 2019, Chicago provided a breathtaking stage for the union of Ann and Hansen. This wasn’t just a wedding; it was a vibrant tapestry of deep-rooted cultural heritage set against the city’s most iconic landmarks, from the historic grandeur of Holy Name Cathedral to a starlit reception at the Adler Planetarium, a day defined by faith, family, and a love that outshines the skyline.

Intimate Traditions & Morning Prep

The day began with a beautiful blend of quiet anticipation and rich tradition. We documented the intricate artistry of saree draping for the bridal party and a moving family prayer that grounded the morning in faith. One of the most touching moments was Ann’s first look with her father, a private exchange of emotion before the whirlwind began.

A Sacred Union

The ceremony was a masterclass in elegance. Beyond the exchange of vows, we focused on the thali (minnu) tying, the cherished South Indian Christian ritual symbolizing the weaving together of two families, a moment where heritage and faith met in a single frame.

Chicago as a Backdrop

Between the vows and the dancing, we followed the couple through the heart of the city: cinematic portraits at Milton Olive Park and along the historic bridges near Wabash Avenue, Chicago’s steel and greenery framing their first hours as husband and wife.

Dancing Under the Stars

The celebration moved to the edge of Lake Michigan at the Adler Planetarium. As the sun set over the skyline, guests welcomed the newlyweds to a reception filled with energy: a romantic first dance to Lauryn Hill’s “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” and a high-octane set from the band Entourage that kept the dance floor electric until the final song.
