Caroline & John: A Cinematic Chicago Wedding at Saint James Chapel & The Peninsula

Captured through a timeless and elegant lens, Caroline and John’s wedding on October 6, 2018 was a masterclass in bespoke Chicago luxury. From the historic beauty of Saint James Chapel to the sophisticated grandeur of The Peninsula Chicago, every frame of this film highlights the meticulous detail and deep family connections of the day.

The Preparation & First Look

The day began at The Peninsula, where Caroline shared morning laughs with her bridesmaids through hair and makeup while John and his groomsmen prepared in a nearby suite. Dazzling in her Monique Lhuillier gown and custom veil, Caroline met John for a private, breathtaking first look on the Shanghai Terrace before the wedding party headed to the iconic Wrigley Building and Riverwalk for portraits.

The Ceremony at Saint James Chapel

The film then transitions to the solemnity of Saint James Chapel: a processional to “Canon in D” and “Trumpet Voluntary,” Caroline’s walk down the aisle escorted by her father, and vows beneath the chapel’s famous stained glass. The grand exit was one for the ages, guests waving ribbon streamers as live bagpipes played the newlyweds onto the steps.

The Reception at The Peninsula

The Grand Ballroom was transformed into a dreamscape by a star-studded creative team: an 18-foot boxwood wall, custom cocktail signs, gold-rimmed chargers, and florals and lighting that turned the room into a wonderland.

  • The first dance: a magical moment to “Over the Rainbow.”
  • Heartfelt toasts: from the matron of honor, a groomsman, and both fathers.
  • The energy: high-octane dancing led by Ken Arlen Music, closing with a late-night delivery of Lou Malnati’s deep dish and a full-room singalong to “Sweet Caroline.”
