Kate & Ben’s Wedding at Old St. Patrick’s & The Old Post Office

Kate & Ben: A Cinematic Love Story at The Old Post Office

“I will care about you for a long long time.” This simple yet profound promise, made during their early college days, served as the emotional heartbeat of Kate and Ben’s wedding day on September 16, 2023. Their story, which began 14 years earlier at a grocery store in Streeterville, culminated in a breathtaking celebration of loyalty, humor, and a “deeply rooted sense of justice.”

From Biology Partners to Partners for Life

While many college couples meet at freshman square dances, Kate and Ben took a different path; they skipped the dance but found each other as biology lab partners. From those early days, Ben knew he had found someone extraordinary, a “beautiful girl with a great sense of humor” who supposedly loved sports. Years later, their wedding was a testament to that enduring bond, officiated by their lifelong friend, Father Dominic, who completed his journey to the priesthood just in time to marry them.

The Preparation

The morning began in the sophisticated, historic spaces of The Old Post Office, with Kate and her bridesmaids in The Vault and Ben and his groomsmen in The Library, expertly coordinated by Danielle Kolb Events.

The Ceremony at Old St. Patrick’s

The couple traveled by trolley to the historic Old St. Patrick’s Church, where the service was filled with laughter and tears as they exchanged vows, promising to be faithful “in good times and in bad.” Following a grand exit from the church, the wedding party captured stunning visuals at the South Gardens of the Art Institute before returning for golden hour portraits in The Meadow at the Old Post Office.

The Celebration in the Historic Lobby

The reception took place in the Old Post Office’s Historic Lobby, from marble floors to ornate ceilings, with heartfelt (and sarcastic) toasts from the maid of honor and best man, the joyous presentation of Mr. and Mrs. Lamb, and a romantic first dance. The night then transitioned to a high-energy after-party in the Telegram Lounge, complete with late-night snacks and karaoke.

Every frame reflects a love that truly makes people say, “I hope I have a love like that someday.”
