Capturing a Connection Years in the Making: Liz & Mike’s Loews Chicago O’Hare Wedding
Some love stories take a few tries to get going. Liz and Mike were introduced through a mutual friend in May 2010, watching the Blackhawks at Another Round in Downers Grove. They went on a few dates, then went their separate ways, until July 2013, when they reconnected over the NBA Finals at Hub51. From there, their shared love of family, music, and sports carried them all the way to a July 16th wedding day we were honored to film from start to finish.
Morning Preparations and the “I Do’s”
The day began with a flurry of activity on both sides of the wedding party. Mike and the groomsmen got ready at the Loews Chicago O’Hare, while Liz and her bridesmaids gathered at her parents’ home in Inverness for hair and makeup. After portraits at the family home, everyone made their way to St. Mary Church in Buffalo Grove for a 2:00 PM ceremony.
A Celebration Rooted in Family and Tradition
After the ceremony and a lively two-and-a-half-hour party bus session, the celebration moved to the reception at Loews Chicago O’Hare, where family was the throughline of the whole night:
- Heartfelt speeches from the fathers of the bride and groom.
- A special blessing led by Liz’s brother, Paul Hutchison, before dinner.
- Best Man and Maid of Honor speeches, followed by the traditional father-daughter dance.
Cinematic Highlights of the Night
As videographers, we’re always looking for the moments that define a couple’s personality, and this reception had two we won’t forget. The first was the “Champagne Parade,” where the staff entered to the whimsical sounds of “Be Our Guest” from Beauty and the Beast. Later, Liz and Mike took the microphone themselves to deliver a personal thank-you speech to their guests.
The Grand Finale
The energy never dipped, from the opening of the sweets table to the high-octane dancing that filled the ballroom. The night reached its peak at 11:25 PM with a final, room-wide singalong to Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin’,” the perfect ending to a day years in the making.
