Not every Chicago wedding venue with a skyline view is actually on the water. Here are the real Lake Michigan venues we’ve filmed weddings at, where the lake isn’t just a backdrop in a few photos, it’s part of the ceremony or reception itself.

Theater on the Lake

A 1920 lakefront landmark at Fullerton and the lake, with a Great Hall for receptions and a lakeside lawn for ceremonies. Most weddings here run around $70,000 all-in. Read our full Theater on the Lake cost guide.

Adler Planetarium

Simply put, the best skyline shot in the city. The Adler sits on the Museum Campus peninsula, jutting directly into Lake Michigan, with the entire Chicago skyline framed across the water. Facility rental runs $6,800 to $9,800 depending on the day. Read our full Adler Planetarium cost guide.

Lake Shore Country Club

A private club in Glencoe with real Lake Michigan views, garden ceremonies, and lakefront golden-hour light. Most weddings here run around $68,000. See our Lake Shore Country Club venue guide.

The Drake

The Drake sits where Michigan Avenue meets Lake Shore Drive, across from Oak Street Beach, so lake and beach portraits are a short walk from the ballroom. It is the venue we have filmed most: Lauren and Andy signed their ketubah in the Gold Coast Room and danced the hora before a midnight Small Cheval delivery, and Lena and Nick held their February ceremony in the same room. Beyond Chicago: Bay Harbor Yacht Club, Michigan

For couples willing to travel north, Bay Harbor Yacht Club sits right on Lake Michigan’s Little Traverse Bay. Teresa and Rowan’s July Italian wedding there began with an arrival by boat and ended with a classic GTO exit. Watch Teresa & Rowan’s film.

A Note on Lakefront Photos

If your ceremony or reception venue isn’t directly on the water, you can still get real Lake Michigan portraits nearby. Milton Lee Olive Park and Oak Street Beach both give couples a genuine lakefront skyline shot as part of a downtown photo tour.
