Milton Lee Olive Park: A Chicago Wedding Photo Guide

Tucked behind the Jardine Water Filtration Plant, just north of Navy Pier, Milton Lee Olive Park is one of our favorite skyline locations precisely because most couples have never heard of it. As wedding videographers who’ve shot here, here’s what to know before you add it to your timeline.

Why Olive Park Works

The park sits on a stretch of lakefront that hands you a wide-open Chicago skyline view without the crowds of Navy Pier or the Museum Campus. A jetty and concrete platforms extend out over Lake Michigan, putting the skyline directly behind the couple with water in the foreground, a different look than the more common bridge or riverfront shots downtown.

Best Time to Shoot

Golden hour is the clear winner here: the skyline catches warm light and the lake goes still and reflective. Early morning and partly cloudy days also work well. The park is gated and closes about 30 minutes before sunset, so a sunset session needs to wrap before then, not start then.

Getting There and Getting Around

Olive Park sits east of Ohio Street Beach and requires a short walk in from the nearest parking, so comfortable shoes matter more here than at some other downtown stops. It pairs naturally with a Streeterville, Gold Coast, or Navy Pier-area ceremony or reception, and works well as one stop on a larger portrait tour rather than the only location.
