Café Brauer Wedding Guide
Café Brauer is Lincoln Park’s Prairie School jewel: built in 1908 on the edge of South Pond, its Great Hall glows with arched windows, art glass, and murals, while the open-air loggias frame the skyline across the water. Operated in partnership with the Lincoln Park Zoo, it offers something rare in Chicago: a landmark interior, a nature backdrop, and the city’s most famous postcard view, all within one wedding. We have filmed three weddings here, and it never photographs the same way twice.
Café Brauer Wedding Films
Watch two real weddings we filmed at Café Brauer:
Emily & Tom’s October celebration, from St. Michael’s vows to a midnight champagne spray in the Great Hall.
Sarah & JD’s classic wedding with a dusk sparkler sequence outside the hall. And see Kelly & Tim’s open-air ceremony at the Foreman Pavilion with a bagpipe processional.
The Spaces
The second-floor Great Hall is the heart of the venue: a soaring room with skylights and century-old murals that turns golden by candlelight, entered by a staircase made for grand entrances. The loggias at each end host cocktail hours with pond and skyline views, and the ground level and terraces handle ceremonies and cocktail overflow. Just outside, the South Pond boardwalk delivers the skyline-over-nature portrait every Chicago couple wants.
Ceremony Options
Couples marry onsite, on the loggia, at the nearby open-air pavilions, as Kelly & Tim did, or pair Café Brauer with a church ceremony. St. Michael’s in Old Town is the natural pairing, ten minutes away; two of our three Café Brauer weddings made that exact combination.
Photo & Video Locations
You barely need to travel: the South Pond bridge’s skyline view, the Alfred Caldwell Lily Pool’s hidden Prairie School landscape, the Lincoln Park Zoo grounds, and North Avenue Beach are all within minutes. Golden hour on the boardwalk, with the Hancock rising behind the trees, is one of the best portrait windows in the city.
What a Café Brauer Wedding Costs
Venue rental typically runs in the five figures with proceeds supporting the Lincoln Park Zoo, plus catering from the venue’s approved list. All-in, most Café Brauer weddings we have seen land in the $40,000 to $90,000+ range depending on guest count and season. Confirm current rental rates and caterer requirements with the venue’s events team; treat these as planning figures.
Filming Weddings at Café Brauer
The Great Hall rewards a crew that knows its light: the skylights carry the afternoon, the murals need careful exposure by night, and the staircase entrance deserves two cameras. We time the boardwalk portraits for golden hour, plan the loggia cocktail coverage around the sunset, and have filmed everything here from bagpipes to champagne sprays. Three weddings in, we know this landmark’s rhythm.
