Jenni & John’s Urban Chic Summer Wedding at Chicago Illuminating Company
There is something truly electric about a summer wedding in the heart of Chicago, and Jenni and John’s August 4th celebration was no exception. From the sleek, modern prep at the Marriott Marquis to an intimate, music-filled ceremony, every moment was a cinematographer’s dream.
The Morning Glow
The day began at 7:00 AM with the bridal party gathering for hair and makeup. Jenni had carefully curated the morning’s aesthetic, gifting her bridesmaids sheer-backed robes for their getting-ready looks. The energy in the suite was a perfect mix of nerves and excitement as the girls prepared for a day that was forecasted to reach a scorching 100 degrees.
Emotional First Looks
We captured two incredibly moving first looks. At 1:15 PM, Jenni shared a private moment with her father, Timothy Badowski, before heading out to meet John for their own first look near the hotel. These quiet moments of connection are often the heart of a wedding film, and the backdrop of the city provided the perfect urban frame.
A Garden Oasis in the City
After a fun-filled ride on the party bus, the couple and their wedding party headed to the Lily Pool for photos and video. This lush, serene location offered a beautiful contrast to the industrial-chic vibe of their venue, Chicago Illuminating Company.
The Ceremony
The outdoor ceremony was set up to face the alley, creating a unique, modern atmosphere. As guests enjoyed an infused water station to beat the heat, the air was filled with a curated soundtrack. The processional was particularly memorable, featuring songs like “How Deep Is Your Love” and “Going to California,” culminating in Jenni’s grand entrance through the back gate to the timeless “At Last.” A highlight for the film was the Unity Wine Box ceremony, a beautiful symbol of their new life together.
Reception & Sunset Toasts
The celebration moved seamlessly into a high-energy reception, kicked off by the newlyweds’ introduction to “Roses” by The Chainsmokers. Following the introduction, the couple cut their cake before a series of heartfelt toasts from their parents and the wedding party, including Timothy Badowski, Lauren Badowski, Victoria Hobbs, Patrick Galivan, and Brian Galivan.
As the sun began to set at 8:05 PM, we stole the couple away for a few golden-hour shots, capturing them in the soft evening light just before they hit the dance floor.
A Sweet Ending
The night concluded with an epic dessert display from Sugar Fixe, featuring everything from Nutella cream puffs and lemon bars to s’mores and banana cream verrines. Jenni and John shared their first dance to the band’s rendition of “These Arms of Mine,” a soulful end to a perfectly orchestrated day.
