Capturing Cayli and Matt’s April wedding was a masterclass in blending athletic energy with timeless Chicago elegance. From a morning on the basketball court to a night of dancing in a historic ballroom, their day was a beautiful reflection of their unique journey together.
The Morning: Hoops and Heritage
The day began with a high-energy twist at the Chicago Athletic Association. While Cayli and her bridal party prepared with hair and makeup, Matt and his groomsmen kicked off the festivities with a basketball game on the hotel’s historic court, a candid and spirited start few wedding films can claim. As the morning progressed, we captured the quiet moments of Cayli getting dressed before the bridal party gathered outside the White City Ballroom for portraits, framed by Millennium Park and the Michigan Avenue streetwall.
The Ceremony: St. John Berchmans
The heart of the day took place at St. John Berchmans Catholic Church in Logan Square, where the couple exchanged vows in a traditional ceremony, the church’s cinematic beauty providing a solemn and grand backdrop as the new Mr. and Mrs. Duhig made their exit to begin their life together.
The Reception: Elegance at the CAA
The celebration returned to the Athletic Association: cocktails in the Madison Ballroom, then a formal dinner in the White City Ballroom, named for the 1893 World’s Fair and glowing like it.
- The grand entrance: straight into dinner and the cake cutting, one of the most visually stunning sequences of the film.
- Heartfelt tributes: a welcome from the parents of the bride, toasts from close friends, and a best man speech.
- The first dance: “Mae” by The Gaslight Anthem, a perfectly personal choice.
- The father-daughter dance: Sinatra’s “Fly Me to the Moon.”
- The party: the DJ called everyone back to the Madison Ballroom for dancing under the lights, late-night snacks, and a final dance well past midnight.
