Venue Rental Fees

The Lyric Opera doesn’t publish rental rates directly; couples submit an inquiry through the venue’s private events team for a custom quote. The Daniel F. and Ada L. Rice Grand Foyer, the space behind both of our Lyric Opera weddings, seats up to 200 for a banquet or holds 700 standing (1,100 using the foyer and mezzanine together). The Ardis Krainik Theatre stage itself can also be rented for a banquet of up to 350, with the backdrop raised to reveal a reception on stage. The only rate we could find, a starting figure of $6,500 for the Grand Foyer space alone, comes from a photographer’s venue guide last updated several years ago, so treat it as dated and confirm current pricing directly with the venue.

Food and Beverage

The Lyric Opera doesn’t offer in-house catering; couples bring in their own caterer. Both of our weddings there used different caterers, Food For Thought for Chelsea and Kevin, Limelight for Mandy and James, so per-person costs will follow whichever caterer you choose rather than a venue-set minimum.

Other Costs to Budget

Beyond venue rental and catering, budget for floral and decor, photography and videography, entertainment or a DJ, and rentals for linens, uplighting, and furniture beyond the venue’s house bars and highboy tables. The Grand Foyer’s scale and acoustics reward live music, both of our couples used live musical elements during their ceremonies.

For a full ceremony-and-reception wedding in the Grand Foyer with up to 200 guests, expect venue rental to start in the mid five figures once current rates are confirmed, with catering, floral, photography, videography, and entertainment adding substantially on top given the venue’s downtown Chicago, landmark-building status. As with any unique venue that doesn’t publish standard packages, get a written quote early since pricing depends heavily on date, guest count, and whether you use the foyer alone or add the mezzanine and theater.

Mandy and James paired a traditional tea ceremony with a full Western ceremony at the Civic Opera House, complete with a balcony cocktail hour and a string-accompanied vocal performance during their vows. Both films lean on the same thing: no other Chicago venue offers this much architectural drama for a ceremony.
