Saint James Chapel Wedding Cost Guide (2027)
Planning a wedding at Saint James Chapel? As wedding videographers who’ve filmed more weddings here than at any other Chicago church, here’s the realistic cost breakdown.
Chapel Fees
The chapel’s own published fee is straightforward: $5,500 total. That breaks down to a $2,500 chapel reservation fee, payable to the Archdiocese of Chicago when you book, and a $550 music fee for the organist, cantor, and consultation, payable to the Holy Name Music Department. Saint James is a Catholic chapel of the Archdiocese, so standard Catholic marriage requirements apply: baptismal and confirmation documents, freedom to marry in the Church, and Pre-Cana preparation.
What’s Not Included
The chapel fee covers the ceremony space, organist, and cantor only. It doesn’t include flowers, additional musicians (a string quartet or vocalist, which many of our couples add), a wedding coordinator, or transportation between the chapel and your reception. Saint James is ceremony-only, so every couple pairs it with a separate reception venue.

Pairing With a Reception Venue
Because the real cost of a Saint James wedding is almost entirely driven by where you hold the reception, here’s what we’ve seen and documented: couples pairing Saint James with The Langham, The Peninsula, The Drake, The Blackstone, or the University Club. Each of those guides breaks down real venue and catering costs, so add the $5,500 chapel fee on top of whichever reception guide matches your plans for a full picture.
Sample Budget: Chapel + University Club Reception
As one real example: a couple marrying at Saint James and holding their reception at the University Club (around $85,000 all-in per our University Club guide) would budget roughly $90,500 total once the $5,500 chapel fee is added. The same math applies to any reception venue guide above, simply add $5,500 to whatever that venue’s typical range runs.
Is Saint James Chapel Worth It?
For couples who want the single most cinematic ceremony space in Chicago, yes, without question. Kristine and Matthew paired their Saint James vows with a Langham reception and a groom-on-guitar highlight-reel moment. Maggie and JT followed their chapel Mass with a Cathedral Hall reception at the University Club. Kristen and Kyle called their University Club reception “Hogwarts-like” after a Saint James ceremony full of personal touches. The chapel’s Sainte-Chapelle-inspired stained glass and French Gothic arches give every one of these films the same unmistakable opening act.
